Another Easter
Another Easter
Another year.
Another Easter Sunday;
A time for big box stores to promo bunny ears.
& the chocolaty ones too
& candy eggs-
& little kids running their legs off to fill their basket with the most from the hunt.
PUNT.
Easter: bigger than the super bowl.
Not quite Christmas.
But big enough for an excuse to throw a beer party,
Or to chow down heartily with family and friends.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention church.
For a few hours, pull out the best shoes, and pastel-colored skirts.
Dress to impress;
Pass out business cards;
Plan a great brunch;
To hear the greatest sermon you haven't heard since last year.
I wonder...
Attending one Sunday a year-is that really enough to erase your fear of God & keep in good standing with Him?
Yes, church, I know it's a stale concept...an extinct dinosaur really.
I guess it's silly to regularly worship God.
No, I'm not referring to that place where they serve the Friday Fish Fry Cod.
Oh, and to make sure I don't offend, I am not insinuating that Lent is bad, that's for sure.
Who knows, maybe someone can get more pure by skipping the meat.
For Pete's sake, give me a break.
But go ahead with your plan to show God that you care more about Him than that furry, hoppity, hare.
I'm scaring myself with my own words here.
I think this is more a rap than a poem.
And I can't think of anything that rhymes with "poem."
I know, I'll show em' the way
If they'll just come to my church this Easter Sunday.
I wonder if they celebrate Easter in heaven?
I bet they do it just like us:
...a little beer.
...a little cheer.
...one-hour of insincere worship.
See ya'll next year!
Remember what Christ paid for us all on the cross this Easter.
Matthew 28:1-10 (New King James Version)
Matthew 28
He Is Risen
1 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,[a] and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
5 But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you."
8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell His disciples,[b] behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Rejoice!" So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me."

Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to the abundance of His kindness did beget us again to a living hope, through the rising again of Jesus Christ out of the dead, I Peter 1:3 Young's Literal Translation
